Smoking on the Greenway

I have a proposal to make...Mecklenburg County should ban smoking in public parks and along greenways. Most people who go to parks are there to be active and enjoy the outdoors. Why then would they want to be exposed to second-hand smoke?

My experience today is what prompted this post. I was walking along the Little Sugar Creek Greenway and was approaching the bridge that leads into CMC (Carolinas Medical Center). Since they have a no smoking policy on their campus (another no brainer), people who work there or who are visiting will walk down to the greenway and blaze up. Unless you want an unpleasant dose of second-hand smoke you literally have to hold your breath as you pass through. Today, not only were there five people down there adding to the haze under the bridge, one of them was actually walking in the same direction as me...(much harder to get passed you and away from your fumes!).

Public parks are really no place to be smoking...so, let's get that taken care of Meck Co!

Let me know what you think in the comments below...

New Direction

The new idea is to take this blog out of the mothballs and start publishing regularly. I'd love to say I'll post something everyday...but that's probably unrealistic. My goal will be to publish something once/week, but I really hope to beat that schedule.

I hope what I post will reflect who I am...a slightly irreverent southerner. My goal is not to offend anyone, but I want to say what's on my mind and I want to call out the BS that we all encounter every day.

So, we'll see how it goes...and I hope you'll come along for the ride.

Paroled Development

I heard a rumor today that a new season of Arrested Development might be made. Would this mean the whole cast would return? Bateman's career has continued to rise, but Will Arnet (sp?) has made a couple of bombs (haven't seen Up All Night) and someone needs to shoot the writers of "Retired at 35" for the crime that show is. Jessica Walter is wasted in a role like that. Bring it back! It was one of the best shows on TV and was too clever for most people to appreciate!

Belushi

Watching John Belushi on old SNL reruns brings mixed feelings. I know it's supposed to be funny, but in some ways it's dated. There's so much cultural background that you need to have to get all the humor, that it honestly feels like you're listening in on some inside joke. Still, watching Belushi as Elizabeth Taylor as she gets choked on a chicken quarter during an interview...now that's funny stuff.

Church

It was good to get back to church today. That's something that's been missing from my life for a long time now. This needs to become a regular part of my life again. I'm not sure if that will be at Mosaic, or some other church. They each present some challenges; but I think it will be worth figuring out!

Surgery

My aunt had surgery this morning. It's her second heart stint in about 2 years. She's come through fine, but something needs to change.

Countdown

The final few days of school wouldn't be so bad if everyone didn't get so bitchy...
