I have a proposal to make...Mecklenburg County should ban smoking in public parks and along greenways. Most people who go to parks are there to be active and enjoy the outdoors. Why then would they want to be exposed to second-hand smoke?
My experience today is what prompted this post. I was walking along the Little Sugar Creek Greenway and was approaching the bridge that leads into CMC (Carolinas Medical Center). Since they have a no smoking policy on their campus (another no brainer), people who work there or who are visiting will walk down to the greenway and blaze up. Unless you want an unpleasant dose of second-hand smoke you literally have to hold your breath as you pass through. Today, not only were there five people down there adding to the haze under the bridge, one of them was actually walking in the same direction as me...(much harder to get passed you and away from your fumes!).
Public parks are really no place to be smoking...so, let's get that taken care of Meck Co!
